While the stress relieving benefits of a seasoned block are legendary it wasn't until we started building 800+hp billet aluminum endurance race blocks that we saw the proof first-hand. Having machined thousands of brand new DART, World, Keith Black, Donovan and Brodix aluminum blocks for race applications, we were familiar with the typical "hone chatter" associated when using our custom torque plates. It was obvious the rings were loosing their sealing capabilities, particularly at high rpm due to the “chatter” effect. However, blocks that had repeated "cycling" during the racing season or had been cryogenically frozen in fact held their seal. Consultations with DART on this topic confirmed their most powerful race block is in fact one that has been welded and raced!

We now offer you these same benefits by starting with a factory seasoned core but installing oversize and extremely thick sleeves manufactured by our PREFFERED PARTNER Darton Sleeves. Darton is legendary for their pioneering work in alloys and centrifugally spun-cast FLANGED & MODULAR INTERGRATED DECK (M.I.D.) sleeves design in all levels of racing. These same sleeves used by leading block manufacturers such as DART, World, Keith Black, Donovan and Brodix, are now available installed in a factory block using our Rottler CNC equipment. A CNC machine can locate the cylinder bores on-center more precisely than your typical machine shop. This blue-printing of the block enables the pistons and rods to sit precisely on the crankshaft, reducing friction and improving ring sealing.

Installation of these new race sleeves has enabled us to increase the bore diameter substantially and still maintain cylinder integrity. The benefits of increasing engine size by boring are well established. Refer to articles written by our Technical Partner David Vizard at www.gofastnews.com. Larger bores not only un-shroud valves (improving breathing ability), but now also allow us to reach unheard of cubic inch in a factory core at a very affordable price.
Thick decks as used by all the major aftermarket block manufacturers are proven in their ability to stabilize ring seal during combustion as well as providing a superior head gasket sealing surface for extreme cylinder pressures. This strength is duplicated with the Darton flanged design with varying thicknesses up to .275". Note the broad flange outling in the deck surface as it is finished to an RA50 for use with MLS askets. Custom MLS gaskets in varying thicknesses for our steel or aluminum rod engines are custom large bore designed by our PREFERRED PARTNER Cometic. CNC machining off the crankshaft centerline assure the block deck height is blue-print square from deck to deck and front-to-back.

Benefits of priority main oiling permit the oiling system to perform its primary cooling function of the rod and main bearings. Steady oil flow is critical at high RPMS and especially for endurance. Oiling system enhancements such as chamfering, enlarging, restricting and even plumbing are performed to assure steady flow through the crankshaft. Likewise, windage control enhancements are made individually to eliminate power robbing oil off the rotating assembly and reduce engine killing oil aeration.
The next biggest gains in internal combustion engines will be made in thermal management as currently over 70% of heat produced is eliminated through the cooling system. Each block is liberally filled with our cast iron or aluminum enriched block fill to direct cooling the most heat critical parts of the block and eliminate others. Just like a shorter span is stronger so have we further strengthened the cylinder wall by reducing unsupported sleeve length. Note several design blocks feature AN fittings to direct incoming coolant directly into the hottest part of the block, between the center two adjoining exhaust valves and to the back of the block. Our 800+hp endurance engines survive hours of desert het under racing conditions with only two inches of vertical coolant at the block deck! This block is not filled to that extreme but benefits as varying fill levels through-out the block stabilize temperature. Refer to benefits of hard blocking as explained by David Vizard at www.gofastnews.com.
Each block is fitted with moly-disulfide coated cam bearings burnished and fitted with a cam prior to shipping. Coated cam bearings reduce friction and maintain lubricity during operation. For an additional $450 fee, the block can be machined with a large 50 to 60mm diameter roller or babbit bearing. The larger cam base circle enables the cam to be ground with a slower ramp profile stabilizing the entire valve train at higher RPMS. Roller cam bearings are generally preferred in applications where oil flow to the heads needs to be further restricted although the babbit bearings are known to reduce friction even further.
For cast iron blocks, the lifter valley and timing cover are glyptol sealed to promote oil return and seal cast iron porosity. Externally the block is fitted with steel core plugs then spayed with a coat of high temperature primer ready for your choice of paint.
Lifter valley girdles can be added for an additional $350 upgrade which have been used in applications up to 1,000 hp.
